Delivering Paving For ExCel’s Expansion

Brett Landscaping and Building Products supplied a total of 2,500m³ of Invicta Moonstone-coloured paving - enough to fill an Olympic-sized swimming pool - to Gallagher (Civils and Engineering) for the new main West Entrance at exhibition centre ExCeL London.

Ant Spencer, Commercial Sales Development Manager at Brett Landscaping and Building Products, commented: “We supplied paving for the entrance’s forecourt and walkways, forming part of the primary access routes that welcome around four million visitors per year to the venue.

“It was important to select a product which matched the colour of the existing paving, was suitable for high trafficked areas and was cost effective for the customer. Our Invicta Moonstone was chosen as it contains high-quality granite aggregates and has a great finish, so it fits the bill perfectly.”

Previous highlights at ExCel include the Formula E World Championship finale, which featured a 1.4-mile-long indoor racetrack, the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, and UK Construction Week.

The now completed entrance, also known as Western Gateway, features new conference rooms, exhibition halls, and training and meeting facilities. These enhancements were a part of the venue’s wider 25,000sqm expansion - a project that increased ExCeL’s total footprint to 125,000sqm, making it the largest exhibition centre in Europe.

Ant added: “From preparing an initial sample panel to supporting the approval process to managing deliveries to site, Chris Adcock - Project Designer, John Moyes - Process Development Manager, and the entire team at our Cliffe site put in a real team effort to ensure everything ran smoothly.

Ant added “We have built a great relationship with the Gallagher Civils team over the years and it’s been a pleasure to work on a project of this scale with them. Well done to everyone involved.”
