Brett 110 - Support for Pilgrims Hospice

Two teams of volunteers from the Robert Brett House IS department recently helped the Pilgrims Hospice in Ashford, Kent with their Summer Fete. The volunteers spent two days helping to set up and pack away before and after the event. Richard Deveson one of our IS team members also took along his ice cream van to the Fete and all proceeds were given to the charity.

The Pilgrims Hospice offers care and assistance to people with coping with incurable illnesses and their Summer Fete is held every year to raise funds for the charity. Below are some pics of the two days and a letter of thanks from Kate Duddell, Fundraising Manager at the Pilgrims Hospice.

Dear all,

I wanted to write to say a big, big thank you for support for the Pilgrims Summer Garden Party, which took place at the Ashford hospice on Saturday and we welcomed over 1,200 people into the grounds of the hospice.

As the dust settles on the event, I am thrilled to say that we had our most successful year yet. Over £20,000 was raised and we are also expecting at least an additional £2,000 in matched funding from corporate companies. This is an increase of £6K from last year. We are delighted as we had quite a few obstacles this year with the roadworks and potential motorway closures.

Your help with support as a team in the days prior and after the event was invaluable. As you will have seen the set up is quite detailed and we appreciated your strength in helping to set up the stalls, gazebos, tables and countless chairs. Not to mention the pack down - which after a busy weekend can be quite a challenge. Richard – you were as ever a star on the day and it was funny watching 100 volunteers all eating ice cream at the same time.

As a team your help on both days was very much appreciated and allowed the fundraising team to manage and concentrate on all the other things that the event entails.

I hope you enjoyed your time at the hospice and found this worthwhile.

We have many events across the Ashford and Canterbury hospice areas throughout the year and if you or any other team members would like to offer support for these, we would always welcome extra support.

Each year Pilgrims Hospices need to raise £11m through voluntary donations and fundraising so that we can continue providing specialised end of life care to local people and their families, friends and carers across our hospices in Canterbury, Ashford and Thanet.  This will only be possible with the ongoing generosity of the communities we serve.

Thank you again and hopefully we can work together in future on other events or Brett corporate fundraising.

Best wishes,

Kate
