Granite Products Supplies Low Carbon Concrete for Warehouse Build
Granite Products has supplied approximately 900m3 of low carbon concrete through project managers Rowney Sharman, for the construction of a new purpose-built warehouse that will be used as a parcel sorting facility for freight service specialists, Ferryspeed.
The project made use of low carbon concrete which is an alternative to traditional concrete and has lower levels of embodied carbon. This is achieved by using supplementary materials such as PFA or GGBS, products which are by products of other manufacturing processes in whole or part substitution of Portland Cement (Cem 1).
Using an alternative concrete mix in the construction of the warehouse has seen significant benefits, with Richard Diegan, Technical Sales Manager saying: “By using low carbon concrete we’ve managed to reduce the overall carbon footprint of this project and save roughly 100 tonnes of embodied carbon. Richard continues: “We are seeing increased demand for low-carbon products are happy that we can provide a range of solutions for our customers to help them meet their sustainability targets.”
