Almost 600 runners took part in this year’s Brett sponsored Lydd Half Marathon.

Almost 600 runners took part in this year’s Brett sponsored Lydd Half Marathon. The course was run around Romney Marsh in Kent and has become a staple in the Lydd calendar. The weather was kind and everyone enjoyed the day which included running races for the children.

The overall winner on the flat, fast course was Phil Anthony (Invicta East Kent AC) in 1hr 6min 45sec, a personal best by 75 seconds. Mark Wilkins (Invicta, 1.14.25) and Antony Jackson (Sittingbourne Striders, 1.14.35) completed the podium. Tina Oldershaw retained the ladies title in 1.21.43, a slightly slower time than the previous year.

The race raises money for the Lord Mayor of Lydd’s Charity Fund and was attended by local residents and the Mayor of Lydd, Councillor Graham Snell. Gregor Mutch, the Managing Director of Brett Aggregates presented the trophies to the winners and commented “Brett has a long history of supporting local communities, we have been involved in sponsoring races like the Lydd Half Marathon for some time now and it is really great to see people enjoying events like this one”.

Race Director Martin Burke said, “We are grateful to the Brett Group for their generous support for the 2012 race. We hope that the 2013 race will be bigger and better again.”
