A Great Event - The 2013 Brett Lydd Half Marathon
Over 750 competitiors braved the chilly conditions to take part in the 2013 Brett Lydd Half Marathon.
More than 750 competitors turned out to take part in the recent Brett Lydd Half Marathon in Kent, despite bitterly cold conditions. At first it was the turn of the youngsters who had a race of their own cheered on by proud parents, friends and family. Then it was the adults turn to brave the cold and head for the starting line.
The Brett Lydd Half Marathon is a 13.1 mile run around the village of Lydd near Romney Marsh and this year it was attended by both local competitors and competitors from other areas of the UK who had travelled to Kent especially to take part.
Buzz Shephard (1:12:36) and Shona McIntosh (1:17:33), both from Dulwich Runners AC scooped the 1st place prizes. Prizes were also awarded by the Mayor of Ashford to age category winners and to Dulwich Runners for winning both team prizes.
Simon Wilson and Darren Ryan from Brett Group took part in the race and were both happy with their personal best times. Darren commented “We both train regularly for events like this and the course at Lydd was really good. The adverse weather conditions did mean that there was a fierce side wind to contend with”.
The event was managed by Nice Works with support from volunteers from the RNLI, Scouts, Guides, Brownies and volunteer marshals who all played their part in making the whole day safe and enjoyable for the spectators and the competitors.
