Brett Meets Tight Deadlines For Ipswich Town FC

Brett Aggregates has played an important part in the delivery of a new all-weather pitch at Ipswich Town FC's training ground.

Brett Aggregates has played an important part in the delivery of a new all-weather pitch at Ipswich Town Football Club’s Playford Road training ground, working with sports surface specialists, SIS Pitches to meet tight deadlines.

Ipswich Town FC has invested a significant six figure sum in improvements to its Academy training ground to enable its players to train throughout the year, come rain or shine. The club contracted SIS (Support in Sport) who design, manufacture and build natural and synthetic grass pitches for a wide range of sporting venues, to remove the old pitch and replace it with a new 3G artificial surface.

SIS had worked with Brett in the past on a school playing field project and, faced with challenging deadlines at Ipswich Town FC, the company contracted Brett Aggregates to strip and remove the existing pitch – within a timeframe of just two weeks.

“To complete this phase of the programme, we had to construct an access road into the site then excavate an area of 9,000 square metres, producing stock piles of 2,300 cubic metres of topsoil,” explains Neil Burley, Plant and Earth Moving Contracts Manager for Brett Aggregates. “This was then removed from the site within a one-week period and taken to our recycling facility at Waldringfield to be processed and turned into reusable product.

“The SIS construction team were extremely pleased that we were able to keep to the challenging timescales as other trades were scheduled to come in as soon as we completed our part ” says Neil.

Following on from the excavation phase, a ground stabilisation team was on-site to stabilise the sub base.  Brett Aggregates contributed to this phase too, supplying about 1,800 tonnes of Type 1 sub base material.

The new pitch at Ipswich Town FC’s training ground is now completed and in regular use by the club’s academy youngsters, helping them improve their game, whatever the weather.
