Supporting Whitstable Harbour Day
Whitstable’s Annual Harbour Day was a resounding success with thousands of visitors enjoying the wide variety of things to see and do both on the quayside and on the water.
With its long-established site on Whitstable quay since 1937, Brett Aggregates was again pleased to play its part in the event, providing two lorries that the public could visit and an information stand displaying the company’s history in Whitstable.
Whitstable Harbour Day is a free, action-packed celebration of the town’s maritime past, present and future – a day when the harbour is filled with all manner of vessels including Border Patrol boats and Thames barges; when the quayside is packed with stalls selling food, drink and local craft items; when visitors can enjoy live music and a host of activities; and when organisations, both national and local, have the opportunity to interact with the public, providing information and insight. Emergency services such as the RNLI and the Coastguard displayed their equipment and local groups, charities and organisations came together in the Marine Environment Zone to raise awareness of marine pollution and show people what they can do to reduce it.
Brett Aggregates’ stand proved very popular with visitors, Juliet Sargant, Asphalt General Manager at Brett Aggregates commented, “We displayed a range of company history books which brought back memories for many of the visitors who had worked at Brett themselves in the past or had family members who were former employees. We gave away balloons, pens, pads and mugs which went down very well, and we also had a constant stream of people, young and old, climbing up into our lorry cabs to experience a driver’s perspective.
“The Neptune, which regularly delivers aggregates to our site, was moored alongside our quay and Captain, James Frazer was flying the Brett flag. It was a wonderful day, enjoyed by hundreds of families.”
Gordon Vincent, Chair of Whitstable Maritime which runs the event, was delighted with Brett Aggregates’ increased presence this year, saying: “May I congratulate you on your contribution to our maritime festival on Saturday: thank you. It is estimated that over 10,000 visitors passed through the event between 10:30 am and 4:30 pm and there have been numerous compliments – the most frequent phrases I heard being ‘a great community event’ and ‘a wonderful atmosphere’.”
