Brett Supports Local Talent

As part of a restoration project in the early 1980's, approximately 40 willow trees were planted by Brett employee Dave Steward at Sandon Quarry to form willow beds. These willows make especially fine cricket bats and as part of Brett's sponsorship of local talent, a young Kent cricketer, Richard Heywood was offered the chance to have a bat made especially for him.

Richard and his parents, Andrew and Una Heywood, and Dave Steward who planted the Brett willow beds, were invited to see how a Brett willow is turned into a bespoke lightweight cricket bat, perfect for Richard, at Brett supplier, JS Wright and Sons. Andrew Heywood said: "Richard was delighted with the bat - it meant so much to him to see where it had come from and how it was turned into his very own bat.

Bill Brett, Chairman said: "It's a pleasure to support local talent in this way. Planting the willows all those years ago as part of our continuing restoration of Kent land has created a very special heritage, which couldn't be put to better use than in helping Kent Under 11s to glory!".
