Brett 110 - Decorating 1st Teynham Scout Hut

On Friday 25th October Mick Stone, Trisha Smith and Chris Pike from the Group SHE Team used their Community Day to decorate the inside of 1st Teynham Scout Hut. The Scout Group offer scouting experiences for young people aged 6-14 and relies solely on subs and donations. Scouting helps develop independence, resilience and leadership in young people. 1st Teynham are proud of the young people that attend, the roles they play in the village and that many return as Young Leaders once they turn 14. Chris Pike runs the Beaver Scout section at 1st Teynham with his wife Louise.

The Scout hut had not been painted for around 15 years and was last painted using some donated yellow paint. Volunteers from the Scout Group had taken down the noticeboards around the hut the day before, revealing last time it had been painted they had been left up.

The roof beams had previously been part painted brown and really needed be to returned to white to brighten the hall and visually lift the ceiling.

The day started with a quick clean down of cobwebs and dust before painting could commence.

As the hut is a wooden construction and around 70 years old masking tape wasn’t needed as there aren’t many straight edges, a steady hand while cutting in was all that was required.

In the day the team gave the whole hall 3 coats of bright fresh light grey paint and the beams 2 coats of white.

Scout Leaders and Committee Members expressed their gratitude to Brett for the service and the associated donation.

Parents of the young people using the hut have commented on how bright, fresh and clean the hut now looks.
