The 2025 Brett Lydd Half and 20 Mile Marathon Races

This year over 900 runners took part in the Brett sponsored 20 mile and Half Marathon races on the sunny – but challenging -lanes of Lydd and Romney Marsh.

Organised by Nice Work, the Brett-Lydd Half Marathon and 20 mile is an annual event that provides experienced and brand-new runners alike a testing experience racing on country lanes and roads. Brett has sponsored the Lydd and Romney Marsh based races for almost 20 years, and at this year’s event Darren Knight, Area Production Manager at Brett Aggregates, congratulated the runners and winners alike alongside the Mayor of Lydd.

Jason Baker, running under the Assent Performance banner, took the victory in the men’s 20-mile race with a time of 1:56:05. Following Jason in a quick time of 1:56:54 was Daniel St Martin for Medway and Maidstone Athletic Club, and in third James MacDonald of the Cambridge Harriers crossed the line in 1:57:03.

Behind the two runners for the Hampshire based club was Amelie Karlsson for the Tunbridge Wells Harriers with a time of 02:16:54.

The first three runners across the line in the half marathon all came in under 1:20:00. Zeke Micheel clocked a fantastic time of 01:18:44 as first male, whilst Aislinn Darvel of Lonely Goat RC took first female with a speedy time of 01:25:46.

This year’s race also saw Chloe Yeo, Personal Assistant at Brett Group, set a new personal best, finishing her half marathon race in 2:07:50. Shane Brazier, Transport Planner at Brett Aggregates, also took part in the half marathon, setting a time of 1:53:24 and finishing in the top 95 of the over 250-person race.

Chloe said “Lydd was my second ever half marathon, so I was a little apprehensive, however I really enjoyed the course and finished with a personal best!

“Overall it was a fantastic event, we had great weather, a good atmosphere, a well-stocked refreshments station and it was lovely to see Brett people handing out medals at the end of the races.”

Shane commented “The weather was perfect for a marathon, with a lot of sunshine and gentle winds, although I was a little nervous coming up to the event but that feeling soon disappeared once I started.

“The race was definitely more challenging than previous events I have attended but overall it was a great experience.  It was a really well organised event, and I’ll definitely be putting my name down again for next year.”

Rachael Wood, Managing Director at Nice Work, commented: "This year's Lydd 20 and Half Marathon was a race highlight with a huge field of runners and no head wind. It's always an exciting event for us at Nice Work as it hails the start of Spring and Marathon season.

"This year we saw an epic 900 runners taking to the quiet country lanes as they got their big training run in. For others it was about taking on the challenge of the Marshes, all for a great cause. As ever we are thrilled to support the Lydd Mayor's Fund and thankful for the sponsorship from Brett. Every penny of which goes to support local good causes. See you all again in 2026!"
