Brett Sponsors Historic Whitstable Rocks Oyster Festival

Brett has been a part of Whitstable’s historic harbour for over 100 years beginning in 1920, when the first wharf-side asphalt plant was opened. Since then, Brett has set up a larger asphalt plant, and an aggregates plant on the East Quay, and enjoys a long-standing relationship with the local community.

Recently, Brett has sponsored the Whitstable Rocks Oyster Festival, an annual event that attracts visitors from across the county to celebrate the native oysters and seafood in Kent. The festival has been celebrated since the 1980s in its current form, but has been present in the community dating back as far as Roman times.

Over the festival period the quayside becomes a hub for food, drink, and live music, and includes a host of activities set up by the local community including pirate themed pottery, tug of war, kite flying and much more.

At this year’s show, Brett supported a variety of events including trophy engraving and prizes for the long beach mud tug as well as clay and tools for the children’s pirate pottery activities. Brett also contributed an array of prizes for the Welly Throwing, Kite Flying and Treasure Hunt kids’ events, which saw the participation of over 400 children.

Juliet Sargant, Asphalt General Manager at Brett Aggregates, said: “The Whitstable Rocks Oyster Festival is a great local event enjoyed by thousands of people. Brett is proud to have sponsored this year’s festival and show our support to a community that we have been closely involved in for many years.”
