Brett Aggregates Receives Largest Ever Delivery Of Primary Rock

Brett Aggregates’ Ipswich Wharf has recently welcomed the MV Pasila, a large cargo ship, which has discharged 11 kilotonnes of Type 1 Granite to the site - the largest individual delivery of Primary Rock received by Brett Aggregates.

The material is being processed on site and delivered to the Sizewell C power station project in East Suffolk for use in a wide range of projects on site including foundation layers for areas housing temporary offices, storage areas, and welfare facilities. Additionally, the granite is being used for the construction of a new temporary road that will allow heavy vehicles to access the main construction areas of the site.

Joe Sheekey, Sales Manager at Brett Aggregates, commented: “We’ve been supplying Sizewell C for nearly a year now, vessels that brought in material for the project typically delivered up to nine kilotonnes, but with the MV Pasila we can now bring in an additional two kilotonnes.

“We worked closely with Associated British Ports to ensure the MV Pasila could be scheduled around tidal times, and we’re pleased to have such a large vessel delivering to our site.”

Sam Tarr, Project Delivery Manager, said: “The vessel was equipped with three large cranes discharging material much quicker than other vessels that are usually equipped with one crane. Having three cranes operating at once meant more space was required on the quayside.

“With the higher outputs we had to ensure that there were enough loading shovels to move the material quickly and reroute traffic around the site due to the space constraints. Well done to the team at Ipswich Port who did a fantastic job handling this delivery.”
