A Fun-Filled Weekend At The Brett-Sponsored Whitstable Harbour Show

“A brilliant day”, “really good and busy”, “would love to do it again” - just a few of the comments from attendees at this year’s Brett-sponsored Whitstable Harbour and Boat Show. Attracting over 10,000 visitors each year, the event is a celebration of Whitstable’s heritage, with fresh seafood, bustling quayside activities, and opportunities to engage with local businesses.

This year’s show featured over 20 maritime-themed stalls and exhibits that filled the quayside, including boatbuilding demonstrations, talks, children’s craft workshops and exciting boat races. From start to finish, Brett people worked closely with the show committee to support the event.

Kimberley Cogger, Personal Assistant to Brett Aggregates’ Managing Director, said: “In addition to sponsoring the Heritage Boat Building Centre, our team hosted fun and engaging activities for visitors. We had Sheona Drew, Brett Aggregates’ Customer Services Manager, manning the Brett stand on the quayside and running our ‘weigh the hard hat’ and harbour-themed rock painting competitions.

Kimberley added “We also had Martan Grady and Dave Mann, Brett Aggregates’ drivers, helping eager visitors clamber into the driver’s seats of two of our stationary trucks - an experience everyone loved.”

Sheona Drew commented: “The competitions were really well received. Once people were inspired by other rock paintings, we quickly became very busy - everyone was lining up, chatting and painting. It was especially lovely to speak with families of former Brett employees about where their relatives had worked.”

“We also had quite a few ex-Brett colleagues reminiscing while looking through the ‘100 Years of Brett’ book we had on display, which sparked some wonderful conversations.”

Behind the scenes, Stuart Boys, Asphalt Operations Manager ensured the site was safe, organised and ready for exhibitors prior to the event commencing, while Lisa De Luca, Weighbridge Operator, added the finishing touches with decorations and provided support throughout.

Phil Coupland, Managing Director at Brett Aggregates, said: “Brett has been part of Whitstable for over 100 years, with the first wharf-side asphalt plant opening in 1920, and we continue to enjoy a close relationship with the seaside community today.

“It was fantastic to see everyone - Brett people, members of the local community and visitors - engaged and having fun throughout the event. Gordon Vincent, Whitstable Harbour and Boat Show Chairman, has already confirmed the show will return next year, and we look forward to being involved once again.”
