Brett Landscaping And Building Products Supports Award-Winning Urban Forest Garden
Brett Landscaping and Building Products’ recycled aggregates featured in the Avanade Intelligent Garden at this year’s Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Chelsea Flower Show - a project that went on to win a gold medal and the show’s award for Best Construction.
Created by garden designer Tom Massey and architect Je Ahn, the urban forest garden demonstrates how AI technology can support the health of city trees, which often survive only 10 years of an up to 50-year life. By combining sensors with AI, the garden monitors tree growth, soil, air quality, and weather, generating insights to help extend the lifespan of urban trees.
Recycled aggregates from Brett Landscaping and Building Products were used as part of the garden’s surface treatment, creating a natural base alongside the planting while also meeting the drainage and durability demands of the space - supporting the garden’s long-term performance, resilience, and design.
Tom Massey, Garden Designer, on the importance of supporting our green areas: “Urban trees are some of our most powerful allies in tackling climate change - cooling our cities, filtering air pollution, supporting biodiversity, and improving our wellbeing. But they're under constant pressure, and too many don't survive long enough to deliver their full value.”
To ensure the garden continues its role in supporting urban biodiversity, it will be permanently relocated to Mayfield Park, a new city park in Manchester.
James Bridge, Merchant Sales Director at Brett Landscaping and Building Products, added: “We’re delighted to have played a role in Tom and Je’s award-winning garden, and we’re pleased to know it will now live on at one of the UK’s newest city parks.”
