Capital Concrete Adds Thermio® Max To Its Range Of Low Carbon Products

Capital Concrete has added Thermio® Max - a new low-carbon, high-performance screed - into its product range in response to growing customer demand for more sustainable construction materials.

Thermio® Max provides up to 90% lower embodied carbon than traditional screeds by using anhydrite - a gypsum-based binder - instead of Portland cement, the main source of CO₂ in traditional screeds.

The screed has already been supplied by Capital Concrete to Poplar Riverside - a development providing 2,800 new homes alongside commercial and community spaces in Poplar, near the Isle of Dogs in Greenwich, London - as well as in the construction of 99 new council homes in Brent, near Wembley. Thermio® Max has also featured in several residential refurbishments and extensions in and around the Capital.

Nicholas Aitken, Screed and Sales Specification Manager at Capital Concrete, said: “On top of a significant reduction in embodied carbon, Thermio® Max has other benefits such as faster drying time, as well as allowing for a thinner layer of screed to be used in applications like underfloor heating, as little as 15mm, which is great for customers .”

Robert Iodache, Contracts Manager at SCL London – interior construction specialists, said: “It has proven easy to work with and install, enabling flexible application across various works as the product can be laid in thin sections which helps to accommodate different design and site requirements on this project. The CO2 saving is really important on this build, so Thermio® Max was perfect.”

Thermio® Max can be used in underfloor heating systems, floating and bonded floor constructions, thin screed installations, as well as residential and commercial developments.
