Supplying 11.7 m3 of Flowing Screed to EJS Floor Solutions, experts installers of liquid screed, the innovative five-bedroom eco-house, inspired by TV show Grand Designs has attracted a great deal of interest from both the construction industry and the media, with its focus on locally sourced, environmentally-friendly materials and products.

Partly below-ground, the ‘earthship’ construction features huge, south-facing double-glazed windows, air-sourced underfloor heating and walls made from around 1,000 old car tyres filled with soil, covered in locally-dug clay and clad in Kentish ragstone and flint.

Liquid screed proved to be a rapid and highly-effective solution for covering the network of underfloor heating pipes at The Groundhouse, flowing freely around the pipework to form a void-free finish, ready to walk on in just 48 hours and offering the added benefit of increased thermal conductivity through natural radiated heat, giving an even temperature throughout the room.

Flowing screed provides a considerable cost saving when compared with more traditional sand and cement screed.

Flowing screed for the Groundhouse was batched at Brett Concrete’s Ashford plant, transported in two mixer truckloads to the construction site at Minster-on-Sea and installed by Brett Concrete approved installers, EJS Floor Solutions, with on-site technical back-up provided by Brett Concrete technicians.
