SOS-Style Project Receives Brett Concrete's Support

Brett Concrete is pleased to be contributing to an ‘SOS-style’ building project which is set to transform the lives of a family in Kesgrave, near Ipswich.  Brett Concrete is one of around 30 suppliers and subcontractors who are donating some £65,000 worth of materials and labour to extend the family home of 14-year-old Daniel Dellar, who has autism and severe epilepsy.

The project will see the addition of a specially-equipped bedroom and bathroom for Daniel on the ground floor, which will enable the family to reclaim their living room, which is where Daniel sleeps currently, and will save his parents having to carry him upstairs for a bath.

Suffolk-based charity, GeeWizz is behind the project. They sent out a plea for help to local businesses, which in turn sparked a network of calls among subcontractors and suppliers, resulting in an overwhelmingly positive response.
Brett Concrete has donated 8.5m3 of concrete from its Waldringfield (Ipswich East) Plant and mixer driver, Peter Lawson gave his services free of charge to deliver the product to the site.

Work at the Dellars’ home began in earnest at the end of February and is expected to take around three months to complete.  A foot of snow, courtesy of ‘The Beast from the East’, put the project a couple of days behind, but the team are confident that they can complete the build on time, thanks to the generosity and commitment of so many local suppliers and contractors.

Crystal Barber from GeeWizz said that they have been overwhelmed by the response to their call for help. “We started out just looking to install a bath for Daniel as the shower that the family had fitted downstairs for him triggered his seizures, but the project grew and grew. Local contractors and suppliers stepped forward with offers of help and donations of materials and spread the word among their contacts within the construction industry. The result is that Daniel will now have a fantastic sensory bedroom and purpose-built bathroom to meet his needs.

“This will benefit the whole family,” adds Crystal. “They are so grateful to Everyone for their help and support.”
