St Anne's Convent Re-development Phases 1-5
Client: Congregation of the Lady of Our Missions
Location: Canterbury, Kent
Form of Contract:
Value: £4 million
Year of Completion: (Due) Oct 2007
Phase 1
Success in producing a top quality refurbished archive store in 2004 completed by our Small Works department led to the award of further phases to Provian Construction. The dedicated team for phase one respected that their working environment was the home for the Congregation of our Lady of the Missions and ensured minimal disruption and a friendly atmosphere at all times. The strong relationship built in the early stages allowed our building division to negotiate and secure the next four phases of the Convent redevelopment worth £4.5 million.
Phases 2-4
These phases involved the demolition of the former school teaching rooms to house the new 2-storey traditional brick accommodation block including new kitchen facilities (pictured left), food storage room, dining room, living room, laundry room, Mother Superior's room, visitors and community rooms
and sacristy rooms on the ground floor. On the first floor 18 bedrooms, each with individual bathroom facilities and storage, were completed. Both stairs and a lift link the two floors.
The building is finished a very high quality as specified by our client.
Following the completion of these facilities the Nuns were transfered to their new accommodation to allow Provian Construction to to begin Phase 5.
Phase 5
The final phase is now underway to refurbish the buildings on the edge of the site. The existing chapel has a preservation order and therefore will be sympathetically stripped out and refurbished, including new roofing and windows. In addition a linkway will be built from the convent to the Chapel.
Finally, external works will be carried out within the grounds, including a new car park and landscaped planting areas to be completed later this year.
