Provian Construction Supports Pilgrims Hospices

09/05/2011

Pilgrims Hospices Cycle Challenge

The staff of Canterbury-based regional contractor Provian Construction got on their bikes on Sunday 8th May to support local charity Pilgrims Hospices.  Provian entered a team of 17 cyclists to undertake the 47 mile cycle challenge between Margate and Canterbury to raise money for the specialist care provider.

Rick Archer, Design Manager at Provian said, “We were keen to take on the Pilgrims Hospices Cycle Challenge for three reasons; to support a local charity close to the hearts of many of us, to have some fun and demonstrate our commitment to the local community.  Provian Construction is part of the Brett Group and has been serving the people of Kent for over 100 years.”

In between training sessions, the Team raised sponsorship from clients, suppliers, family and friends, with other colleagues at Provian organising cake sales and dress down days to raise extra money.

“Everyone completed the challenge successfully and although the exact figure is not yet known, we are confident we have exceeded our target of £1,000 and raised over £4,000 for Pilgrims.”

Rick encourages other local companies to take part next year saying, “We all had great fun in planning, training and most importantly raising money for Pilgrims Hospices together. Our office has been buzzing in the last few weeks with everyone talking about bikes, training schedules, routes, padded shorts and how to raise the most money.”

Members of staff who did not cycle on the day took part in other ways. Some drove support vehicles carrying refreshments, cycle accessories and first aid supplies should the team need assistance along the route whilst others organised a cheerleading squad.  Provian Colleague Vicky Coltart was a member of the Canterbury-based Kent Falconettes – a team of approximately 20 stunt performing cheerleaders. They turned out to cheer on Team Provian as they departed from the Thanet Hospice and also entertained organisers, volunteers and participants at the Canterbury Hospice throughout the day.

Deborah Kellond, Regional Fundraising Manager for Pilgrims Hospices said, “We are delighted that Team Provian took part in this challenge in helping Pilgrims Hospices.  We provide the best in care for our patients and their carers but we can only do this with the support of people of East Kent.  Provian Construction is clearly demonstrating its support for Pilgrims”.
