Client: Stagecoach Bus Limited Location: Dover, Kent Value: £2.1 million Form of Contract: JCT Design & Build Year of Completion: 2008 Architect: GDM Architects, Maidstone "Provian were a new contractor to the Stagecoach Group and this is always a slightly daunting prospect, however they clearly grasped the intricacies of bus depot construction and provided us with a first class facility. The project was delivered on time and within budget and is a credit to the company" Brenden MacKinven, Stagecoach Group Construction Manager Following a personal recommendation Provian Construction was approached by Stagecoach to design and construct their sustainable new depot that would enhance public transport throughout the District and herald the start of the huge regeneration of Dover Town Centre. The existing central bus depot was to be demolished and replaced with the new depot built on a 0.45 hectare site in Whitfield, Dover. Working closely with Architects GDM Provian, as Principal Contractor, played a central role in the design process of the £2.1m contract. The modern building has been created with sustainability at its core. Following extensive environmental planning, 20% less harmful emissions are released at the new depot compared to the existing site. The facility boasts two levels of office space for employees, engineers and adinistration support, a workshop for up to five buses, inspection pits, exterior parking for up to 40 buses overnight, cleaning facilities, a refuelling bay and staff parking.
