Client: Swale Borough Council Location: Oare, Nr Faversham, Kent Value: £0.93 million Form of Contract: JCT 98 Actual Contract Duration: 43wks Year of Completion: 2004 Provian Construction carefully restored the existing Gunpowder Works at Oare, near Faversham in Kent for Swale Borough Council. The Heritage Lottery funded project involved the clearance of over 30 acres of overgrown woodland, dredging of boggy wasteland where long reach excavators had to be used and the preservation of existing derelict buildings from the 19th Century. Some of the old machinery used for making the gunpowder was refurbished and a new visitors centre was constructed to showcase the gunpowder works history. New walkways and footpaths were formed through the woods and informative signage completed the restoration making Oare Gunpowder Works a key attraction for educational parties and nature enthusiasts.
