Land quarried for more than a decade by Brett Aggregates has been carefully restored by Provian Earthworks. The restoration scheme sees the quarry converted into a reservoir.The 13 week contract to restore the quarry into an aesthetically pleasing area was part of the initial restoration commitment between Brett Aggregates and the farmer to allow them to quarry the area. Designed by Peter Baxter Associates the contract involved excavation works down to the formation clays. These clays were then used to fill a trench which runs around the base of the excavated area as well as used to create a side wall liner. A perimeter drain of approx 1000m is laid outside of the clay liner to ensure stability of the liner during periods when water level is low. A 150mm layer of reject stones (sourced from another Brett Quarry) were placed on the top levels to protect the area from erosion by wave activity. The surrounding area is now being landscaped and replanted. Small shallows on the edges of the reservoir have been made to attract wildlife species. The area has the potential to become a leisure amenity in the future with fishing and lodges. "Provian completed the reservoir construction works at Bentley on time and to a very high standard.
