Completion Date: May 2011
Provian Construction, one of the leading construction companies in the South East, has completed the last stage of a works programme worth over £9.5 million at the massive LNG (liquefied natural gas) terminal expansion project on the Isle of Grain, Kent.
The project valued in excess of £500 million for National Grid is situated on the banks of the River Medway just 30km from the east of London. It is a design and build contract led by CB&I who are a global provider of engineering, procurement and construction for the energy and natural resource industries.
Kent-based Provian, the construction division of the Brett Group, has been on site for four years working on numerous different elements of the project. This has included heavily reinforced concrete foundations for the gas pipelines and jetty approach ramp, construction of concrete roads and footpaths, drainage, MDPE lined drainage lagoons, earthmoving and final landscaping.
The final phase of works undertaken by Provian was completed in October 2010 when the firm surfaced the Process Area access roads.
The Grain terminal on the River Medway and its associated sea approach are deep enough for the largest LNG ships. It will have the capacity to receive and process up to 14.8 million tonnes of LNG (19.7 billion cubic metres of gas) a year, equivalent to 54 million cubic metres of gas a day.
Provian has also been awarded the Health, Safety & Environment Excellence Award by client CB&I, following completion of the project.
