After many years of service, it was decided that the existing sports hall at King Ethelbert School in Birchington was inadequate and required replacing.  With an exceptional track record in delivering education projects across the South East, Provian Construction was selected to deliver the new facility.
 
In recent years, King Ethelbert School has gone from strength to strength and is now placed as one of the top performing high schools in Kent.  Each year building on the success of the previous year, the school constantly looks for ways to give every opportunity they can to every one of its students.  Providing state of the art sports facilities is part of the schools ambition and the much needed sports hall is a key element to this.
 
Delivered under a design and build contract, Provian employed the services of Lee Evans Architects to design the new facility.  The impressive 1,898sqm facility features a ‘Sport England’ standard sports hall, dance and fitness studios, changing facilities, a physiotherapy room and administration offices.
 
Provian’s work included:
• Demolition of existing sports hall
• Creation of new sports hall featuring single storey blockwork with composite cladding to walls and the underside of the metal roof deck
• Fit out of the changing facilities, physiotherapy room and administration offices
• External landscaping including the creation of car park areas and paths as well as soft landscaping
The project was carefully completed in line with ‘Sport England’ standards.  This saw the underside of the metal roof deck and end walls of the hall finished with an acoustic treatment to minimise echo.
 
Built in the ground of the school, the 9 month project required considerable value engineering by Provian to ensure the project met the client’s requirements, whilst utilising funds efficiently.  Completed on time and on budget with minimum disruption, the project further demonstrates Provian’s commitment, expertise and efficient delivery of educational projects.
