Client: Canterbury City Council Location: Kingsmead, Canterbury Value: £0.9 million Form of Contract: JCT LA 1998 with Quantities Actual Contract Duration: 36wks Year of Completion: 2006 Provian Construction have successfully completed a new build single storey steel framed Children’s Centre for Canterbury City Council. The centre’s operators will be ‘Sure Start’, a government scheme for early education, childcare, health and family support. The project required major remediation works including foundations of 52 steel piles and gas membranes. The design incorporates a curved metal roof, a large glazed entrance foyer and exposed steel beams internally. Facilities include reception area, 3 large play rooms for children of different age groups, offices, children’s bathrooms including shower facilities, kitchen and canteen areas, staff room, offices, meeting rooms and sleeping rooms for the children. External features such as parking, a temporary car park and turning circle alongside large external play area were included in the contract.
