Two members of the Brett Landscaping team received recognition for their outstanding contribution to Health and Safety at the British Precast Concrete Federation's (BPCF) annual dinner and awards ceremony.
Chris Dane, Supervisor for the Brett Specialized Aggregates Faversham site, received his for ensuring that pro-active safety performance indicators are met through near-miss reporting and regular safety conversations. His ongoing work on reducing exposure to respirable crystalline silica and overseeing the implementation of a new Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome monitoring system all contributed to the site achieving over 2,000 Lost Time Incident free days.
Nick Moore, Stock and Yard Manager at the Barrow-upon-Soar site, received his for the leadership and drive demonstrated in improving the site’s stock and yard systems. Nick worked in consultation with the site and head office workforce as well as with haulage contractor Wincanton to design and implement a greatly improved traffic management system. This system has significantly reduced the ever present risks associated with traffic movements, loading, strapping and pedestrian access on a busy manufacturing site.
The Pocklington Production Team were also highly commended in the Sustainability Award category for their improvements to the curing chamber. By careful analysis of product breakages they were able to identify a major issue with airflow circulation inside the curing chamber. Having identified the issue they were then able to resolve it by removing some obstructing steelwork and implementing new work procedures.
Taken together these changes now allow the air to circulate freely within the curing chamber and have reduced production waste by two thirds. In addition they have also significantly lowered the curing chamber temperature which has reduced both energy usage and consequent Greenhouse Gas emissions.
Brett Landscaping were also shortlisted in the Health and Safety category for the Barrow Yard and Traffic Management Improvements and for the company wide Tipping Vehicles Safety – Do’s and Don’ts Programme.
