Provian Secures New School D&B Project
26/05/2009

Provian Construction has secured a new project to design and build a Sixth Form centre at Darrick Wood School in Orpington.

The £2.4 million design and build scheme, was awarded to Provian Construction directly by the school.  As part of its project team, Provian Construction will appoint designers Giarti and engineers Kirksaunders, working with them to develop the schemes design.

Darrick Wood Architects ImpressionThe new two storey, 1200 square metre building, will be designed to match the existing traditional masonry buildings on the site.

The new project is testimony to Provian Construction’s proven experience in the education sector. As part of the bid process, Provian Construction took a number of the school’s governors to look at some of its completed and current education projects. This provided the governors with first-hand experience of the build quality, whilst enabling Provian Construction to demonstrate its capability, experience and approach.

Darrick Wood School Sixth Form teaches a variety of subjects. It has a successful track record, with many of its subjects achieving a 100% pass rate. Once complete, the new building will provide the Sixth Form with much needed new teaching and study areas.

Being a design and build project (Provian Construction will be responsible for both the design process and physical build) it has enabled Provian to consider build options, design implications and look at ways to value engineer the build. This has resulted in a highly competitive price for the project, without compromise to the design or the choice of materials used.

As part of the project, Provian Construction will also be undertaking slight alternations to the school’s sports hall and minor infrastructure works, extensive drainage works and the creation of a new play area.

Work is due to start in July with completion expected in July 2010.
