Special Needs Refurb - Secured by Provian
26/05/2009
Provian Construction has won a new £1.2 million project to refurbish part of Valence School, a Special Needs School at Westerham in Kent.
Awarded by Kent County Council, the scheme will see Provian Construction undertake the complete modernisation and internal remodelling of the single storey building. The works are being undertaken to bring the school in line with new standards.
Set in beautiful parkland, Valence School is an LEA funded Special School catering for students from 5-19 years, with physical disability and/or complex medical needs. The school offers a range of services for students and provides term boarding as well as day places for students up to Year 11.
To bring the schools facilities up to current standards, Provian Construction, working with Burns Guthrie Architects and Project Managers Clipson Construction Control, will be stripping the building, which is currently designed into a number of separate bedrooms where care is provided to the students.
The internal layout of the building is going to be remodelled to provide easy access for less able children and provide ensuite facilities to all rooms. External repairs will include overlaying the existing flat roof to ensure the building is completely watertight.
As part of the project, new intelligent controls are going to be added to each of the rooms. These will provide the students with easy and independent control of functions such as windows and doors through to stereos.
Work is due to start in June 2009 with completion expected in January 2010.
