The Shabby Courtyard

The challenge
Since the new conservatory was installed this courtyard area has been left to fend of itself! Covered with pea gravel & a mixture of odd slabs, it was also generating weeds at a rate of knots! The owners needed somewhere nice to sit after a long day at work, they also wanted somewhere to eat and take advantage of the evening sun.

 

The solution
So this once shabby courtyard was set for a make over. The key decision was to blend the new courtyard into the existing surrounding. The conservatory floor was covered in slate and so the choice of Oyster Shell Slate with a 1.8m slate circle project pack was the ideal solution. The patio was edged with slate chipping to aid drainage.

 

This now elegant outdoor sitting and dining area has been transformed and now adds another usable ‘room’ to the house. Evenings are especially pleasant as the courtyard has been edged with LED lights set into the slate.
