Welcome Home!

The Challenge

ThenA 17 year old having passed the driving test, and another car to accommodate, meant the current driveway was not long enough. The old concrete driveway was well past its sell-by-date. Cracked and uneven – it was a real trip hazard (even in the daylight).

The driveway was difficult to access as a narrow lane meant that the swing into the drive was both tight and steep at the entrance. It was also too narrow to keep  feet clean when getting out of the car. In addition, the stepping-stones across the garden always seemed to be in the wrong place.

The whole area in front of the house was in need of a face-lift. It needed interest and a complete new look. In essence, the challenge was to create a usable, inviting and practical space – a real welcome home!

The Solution

Completed DrivewayA complete re-design was going to be necessary to make a driveway to dream of! What was needed was an area to park at least five cars and a driveway that would be easier to access from the narrow lane outside the house.

The new driveway gives very easy access from the narrow lane and now the owners don’t have to keep moving cars to let someone else out.

The addition of a pergola built into the new step outside the house adds character and also allows shelter from the rain for visitors. The step, which now runs along the front of the house, is laid in a stretcher bond whilst the main driveway is laid in herringbone. This use of different laying patterns helps to demarcate areas that have different use and creates a pleasing effect to the eye.

The Beta Brindle large blocks are complimented with a Beta Charcoal stretcher edging. The New Kent Kerb gives a professional finish. It frames the new driveway as well as being a riser to the front door step.
