Group Induction Training Programme

Joining a new company can be a daunting experience, especially one the size of the Brett Group. In the past you might work 30 years for one part of the business and never find out much about the wider operations of the company, but with our new Group Induction Training Programme, we are welcoming all new employees to Brett - and bringing them up to speed on the ins and outs of the entire Group.

Up to now, many new employees have only really been formally introduced to their immediate operating business. "What we have now created is effectively a one-day training programme considering the structure, operations, customers, values and reputation of the whole of the Brett Group", explains Group human resources manager Paul Bishop. Paul is part of a cross-business project team, sponsored by Brendan O'Carroll, Managing Dirctor of Brett Landscaping & Building Products and led by Yvonne Roden, Group head of human resources that devised the programme. "We want our new employees to be able to understand what we do and what Brett stands for, most importantly, appreciating the inter-relationships and inter-dependencies between the Brett businesses.

The training will be led by Jon Lambert, our new human resources manager - people development, supported by Paul and Yvonne. It's a day-long programme that takes place at Cliffe. Why? Because this is the only site within the Group where Aggregates, Concrete and Building Products work alongside each other.

The morning will comprise an interactive training workshop, while the afternoon will involve a tour of theplants at Cliffe, followed by a 'surprise' a the end, which Paul was keeping tight-lipped about. The only thing he would say is that a game show might be involved. A pilot training session has already successfully taken place. The idea is for the induction days to run monthly, and every new permanent employee will, in their first two or three months, take part in one of the training days. "It will provide a better understanding of the Group, a better sense of belonging and ultimately a better knowledge of what all our people do," explains Yvonne. "In this way, everyone will be able to identify business opportunities across the Group as and when they arise, as well as involving new Brett employees in the Brett values and reputation".
