Case study
When registered charity, the Faversham Community Gymnastic and Activity Centre, needed a new car park to cope with an increasing number of users, it turned to the Brett Group to provide the solution.
Brett Aggregates and Provian Construction joined forces to deliver a low-cost solution for the charity which leases the centre from Swale Borough Council.
Swale had previously set aside up to £2,000,000 for provison of the new car park but on learning of the centre’s success in obtaining a grant for new sports equipment for £200,000, withdrew the funding – saying the charity should foot the bill themselves.
The charity then called in Provian Construction, which had worked on the development of its new building in 2003, the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Centre in Whitstable Road, Faversham. Part of the Faversham Community Gymnastic and Activity Centre’s remit as a community-based gym and charity is to keep prices as low as possible, so that as many as possible can benefit from the facilities – hence the need to save as much money as possible on construction and materials.
Brett Aggregates then enlisted the support of local contractor (and customer of Brett Aggregates) Ringway Highways, to provide a suitable material at a discounted price and then it provided the delivery service to the construction site free of charge.
“We were approached by a representative from the Gym Club to see whether any savings could be made,' explains Phil Aust, general manager of Brett Aggregates Southern (pictured here)
“It was only a small job, but an excellent example of co-operation between the two Brett businesses and us working together for the good of the wider community.”
