The Hard Landscaping

Real Life

The theme of the Real Life by Brett garden, designed by multi-award-winning Geoff Whiten, is adaptability and sustainability. Zack Barret, Marketing Services Manager says: “Everyone’s aspirations change over the years and Geoff’s flexible design shows visitors how easy it is to adapt a garden to suit those changing needs.

The version we’re creating at Chelsea captures the essence of a traditional English garden and combines attractive, versatile hard landscaping with a vibrant mix of flowers, shrubs, fruit, vegetables and culinary herbs.”

The garden incorporates a flexible, adaptable building, formal outdoor seating areas, water features, a compost bin and a series of square and rectangular plant beds.

The rustic summerhouse is from Scotts of Thrapston and is called ‘Writer’s Retreat’. It draws inspiration from George Bernard Shaw’s revolving writing hut at Shaw’s Corner, his Hertfordshire home for more than 40 years. It provides a truly flexible ‘room outside’ as it can be used as a garden and potting shed, fitted out to provide additional work or office space or even turned in to a dry and fun play area for the kids.

The paved areas throughout the garden will be an attractive mixture of pavers, aggregates and ground cover planting. Olde English, laid in a Basketweave pattern and Westminster Walling in Old Gold blend harmoniously with the drifting colours of the ground cover planting.

We’ve used Soldier Edging and the decorate aggregates are a mixture of Lydd Aggregate Grade 20 and Scottish Beach Cobbles- in grade 20-30, grade 30-50 and grade 50-80.

For the garden features, we’re striving to use reclaimed material wherever possible.

The idea is to ensure that all of the products in the Brett garden are available to everyone throughout the UK and can be easily incorporated into your existing outdoor area.
