Isle of Sheppey Bridge

Sheppey BridgeThe £70m Sheppey Crossing will provide a vastly improved road link between the mainland and the Isle of Sheppey. The new bridge has been designed to benefit not only the island’s residents, but businesses too.

Through contractor Nuttalls, working through Carillion, Brett Concrete supplied a total of 24,000m3 of concrete for the bridge most of which is sourced from its own plant at the Queenborough site on the island. The original bridge, at present the only connection and one that has to be lifted to allow ships through, is staying in place for rail freight. 2005 saw the biggest concrete pour the Sheppey Island has carried out in the last 30 years as Brett Concrete supplied 5,000m3 for each of the bridge supports.
