The A249 Swale Crossing project, some eight years in planning, will be a vital element in helping to regenerate the Isle of Sheppey. Brett Aggregates is playing an important role in this major road construction and has fought off stiff competition to win some of its largest single orders on the project.
Brett Aggregate's reputation for service, co-ordinated back-up and reliable supply has been commended by Foster Yeoman Contracting and Carillion the main contractor; Brett has a long-standing relationship with both.
The Brett Aggregates team at Ridham, near Sittingbourne in Kent, achieved record production figures with supply of the specialised thin surface product, Brettpave, to the A249 Swale Crossing contract during August of 2005.
15,700 tonnes of coated stone was produced, of which 12,700 tonnes went to Foster Yeoman Contracting for the A249. (The total order is for 87,000 tonnes - supply began in July 2005 and will continue into the early summer of 2006).
Brettpave is being used as the surface course and laid along the A249 from where the M2 crosses over it, along the Sheppey Crossing and then six miles into the Isle of Sheppey. For full-depth road construction, large sections of specialised heavy-duty products are also an important component.
